The Bankers have lost their Shoes.

Silver Strikers have parted ways with head coach Peter “Shoes” Mgangira with immediate effect, ending his tenure after a season in which the Central Bankers struggled to find their footing.

Silver Strikers have mutually agreed to part ways with head coach Peter ‘Shoes’ Mgangira with immediate effect.

The Central Bankers’ statement pointed to the team’s overall performance this season while promising continuity and fresh technical arrangements to restore momentum.

Mgangira stepped into the hot seat in late 2024 after Peter Mponda’s sudden exit, inheriting the newly crowned 2024 TNM Super League champions. His first full campaign delivered silverware the 2025 Charity Shield and the FDH Bank Cup, clinched on penalties against Mighty Wanderers after a 1-1 draw. He also guided the side to the Airtel Top 8 final, where they fell to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.

The 2026 FDH Bank Premiership started brightly for Silver Strikers. After 14 matches, the Bankers were top of the table with 29 points, having scored 23 goals and conceded just five.

Then the “shoes” came off. A crushing 5-0 defeat at the hands of Big Bullets on September 5 ended the early dominance. Combined with earlier dropped points against Blue Eagles and a run of draws, Silver slipped to third on the same 29 points from 15 games; eight wins, five draws and two losses, with a goal difference of plus 13.

Still competitive, but the early lead had evaporated and patience at the top ran out.

The club has assured fans that technical structures will be put in place to regain the control Mgangira showed in the opening weeks. Whether the next man in the dugout can steady the ship will shape the second half of the campaign.
