UTM President and Former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has taken direct aim at State President Arthur Peter Mutharika, publishing an open letter on his official Facebook page urging the head of state to address allegations of grand corruption, money laundering, and systemic administrative decay within his inner circle.

The letter, framed as a respectful appeal to the man fondly called Adadi (Father) by his supporters, marks a significant political escalation from Kabambe a technocrat-turned-politician who previously sought to lead the DPP before parting ways with the blue camp.

Addressing Mutharika directly, Kabambe expressed deep concern over the direction of the party and the nation. He warned that a small clique of individuals surrounding the president is actively shielding wrongdoing, silencing critics, and dismantling the political legacy built by both Arthur Mutharika and his late brother, Bingu wa Mutharika.

“I write in the sincere hope that this letter reaches you in the spirit in which it is intended: not as an attack, but as an appeal made out of concern for Malawi and for the legacy you have worked so hard to build,” Kabambe wrote, adding that he chose the public domain because access to Mutharika has been insulated by individuals averse to honest dialogue.

Kabambe’s letter brings into sharp focus a series of grave allegations currently clouding the public sphere. He cited matters involving public procurement integrity, judiciary independence, cabinet ministers, and human trafficking, demanding that independent investigations take place without “silence, intimidation, or political spin.”

He cautioned Mutharika against treating internal whistleblowers and critics as adversaries.

“When people raise concerns about wrongdoing, they should not automatically be branded enemies of you or your administration,” the statement read. “That kind of narrative serves no one except those who may wish to hide their own conduct.”

Beyond party dynamics, Kabambe tied the leadership vacuum directly to the socio-economic distress facing ordinary citizens. He pointed to chronic fuel shortages, persistent power outages, foreign currency deficits, and the rapidly rising cost of living as issues requiring decisive national presidential intervention and not quiet complicity.

He urged Mutharika to break his silence, step up to the podium, and reassure Malawians that accountability will apply to everyone equally, regardless of political proximity.

Told to wake up- Mutharika.

“No individual should be above the law, and no office should be used to shield wrongdoing,” Kabambe asserted, adding that “Malawi is greater than any one person, party, or administration.”

Political analysts view the public release of the letter as a deliberate tactical move to force Mutharika’s hand while signaling Kabambe’s own independence as a leader. By positioning himself as a truth-teller calling for institutional integrity, Kabambe directly challenges the DPP apparatus to prove whether it remains governed by the rule of law or by personal allegiance.

Mutharika and the DPP executive have yet to issue a formal response to the open letter. However, as public scrutiny intensifies ahead of upcoming political realignment, the spotlight shifts entirely to Kamuzu Palace to see if Adadi will answer the call.
