What a pathetic spectacle unfolding on Capital Hill this week. First, Dr. Justin Adack K. Saidi, PhD, releases a breathless 800-word statement on 31st May, lamenting “misleading reports” as though a handful of Facebook posts had acquired armoured tanks, seized State House, and begun drafting articles of impeachment.

Then came Mathews Kasanda and The Nation Newspaper, who somehow managed to turn a 23 February Cabinet meeting photograph into breaking news. The very same picture that Second Vice President Enoch Chihana circulated months ago.

As Roger Nkhwazi would put it, ministers sitting “phwiii” and comfortably visible for all to see, the old 23 February photograph was suddenly dusted off, polished up, and repackaged with a caption “𝙈𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙠𝙖 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙘𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙩 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠”

Did they forget to do basic research on when the picture was taken? Or did the cartel simply pay for selective blindness? Brilliant journalism, indeed!

To Chief Secretary Justin Saidi: Enough with the lectures on austerity, fiscal discipline, and constitutional delegation, bwana. If the President actually chaired the 27th May Cabinet meeting, show us fresh, timestamped photos not this recycled February garbage. Or are we supposed to swallow that ministers changed outfits mid meeting for a glamorous victory lap? Pure comedy!

And spare us the Bakili Muluzi TV-style propaganda. That tired trick won’t work this time. Malawians want action, not another campaign. This is governance time, not photo-op season.

We know the old Professor at State House means well. We know he burns the midnight oil working for the nation. But he is human, not a machine or robot, which is precisely why we elected decisive leadership, not this endless parade of excuses, spin doctors, and gullible dunderheads propping up the show.

Governance by old photos and strongly worded press releases is the ultimate sign of panic. Deliver tangible results, gentlemen or watch the rumours grow fat on your glaring failures.
