Mwaiwathu Hospital Orders Staff Silence on Brian Banda’s Death

Hospital management directs all employees to refrain from commenting on the passing of the MBC Director General

Blantyre, 9 August 2026 — Mwaiwathu Private Hospital Limited has issued a strict internal directive instructing all staff to remain silent on the death of Mr Brian Banda, former Director General of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

In a formal notice circulated to employees, management ordered staff to “refrain from making any comments, statements or disclosures” regarding Banda’s death. Staff have been explicitly told not to grant interviews or provide information to the media, members of the public, or any external parties.

The hospital directed that any enquiries about the matter be referred to MBC for official handling. Management emphasised the need for “strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times” and thanked staff in advance for their compliance

Banda died on Saturday, 8 August 2026, at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre after a short illness. MBC confirmed the death through its Public Relations and Customer Affairs Manager, Chisomo Mwamadi.

President Peter Mutharika and the First Lady expressed deep sorrow at the sudden loss, describing Banda as a patriot whose work in public service and broadcasting left a lasting mark on the nation. MISA Malawi also issued a statement of condolence, highlighting his fearless style and ability to connect with audiences.

Funeral arrangements announced by MBC state that Banda’s remains will leave Mthunzi Mortuary on Sunday, 9 August, for a church service at Word of Faith Church in Chilobwe, Blantyre. Burial is scheduled for Monday, 10 August, at M’banda Village in Chileka, Blantyre.

The hospital’s directive reinforces its commitment to patient confidentiality in the handling of a high-profile case. Official communication on the matter remains the responsibility of MBC.
